The 5002 Luthorian parliamentary election was a legislative election held on the 4th of April 5002 to elect all 300 members of the Imperial Diet of the Holy Luthorian Empire.

In 4997, the Adderley I Cabinet took office and passed socialist and authoritarian policies.

The cabinet retained its majority and parties supporting the cabinet received 213 seats out of 300.

The left-wing Agrarian Populist Party and the Liberal Party saw the biggest gains while the Monarchist Tory Party collapsed to an historical low.

Context[]

Adderley I Cabinet[]

The previous term was the first fully completed term since the Greenwood-Kimbrough I cabinet in 4980. This meant that there was no snap election called, due to the heavy majority held by the Adderley I cabinet with support of the Bloc and White Rose, who altogether held a majority of 96 seats.

Authoritarian policies[]

The new cabinet highly increased the tax rates for individuals and companies, especially for the wealthiest. This led to discontent among parts of the population and a terrorist attack in the duchy of Orange.

The cabinet also banned private schools, private clinics, banned pornography (a later poll proved over 40% backed this) and prostitution.

The powers of the police became unrestricted, which led to a mass arrest of liberal activists and created claims that Luthori became an authoritarian state by political pundits and the foreign press.

Expectations[]

Senior LSP sources calculated heavy losses for the party in this election, due to the controversy caused by Eghard Adderley’s Morality Act in 5000 and other disliked bills. However, they only lost a small number of seats in 5002.

The Liberal Party under Eva Longham, hoping to capitalise on the general atmopshere of discontent with Eghard Adderley, predicted an opposition victory in which their party would pass the threshold of 15% and regain government. However, they only managed to make a swing of around 4% from the LSP and gained only 11 seats.
