The 5008 Luthorian parliamentary election was an election for the Imperial Diet of Luthori. All 300 members were elected on the 4th of February 5008.

The LSP won the election but lost 10 seats. A new party, the left-wing ALVC, exceeded the expectations and won 13% of the vote. This came at the expense of the Luthorian Progressive Party, which is the successor of the Democratic Society, that only won 9% of the vote.

Context[]

Longham I Cabinet and dissolution of the SDP[]

While the Longham I Cabinet was still in office, the SDP was dissolved. This triggered an early election.

Aftermath[]

The Luthorian Progressive Party’s fall[]

The Luthorian Progressive Party, a centre-left party formed in 5007 and a continuation of the Democratic Society, lost over half of its 63 seats and only managed to win 26 seats,.

The Liberal success[]

Even though the election was a disaster for the LPP, it was a sign of imminent victory for the progressives, due to the A-LVC (a crucial ally) breaking expectations and the strengthening of the Bloc’s position across Luthori. In total, the progressive bloc had managed to gain 13 seats and end the stalemate.
