The Anantonese Ocean is the second largest of Terra's five oceans, after the Red Bass Ocean. It divides the continents of Dovani, Seleya and Keris. It borders all four of the other four oceans: the White Ocean and Mad Dog Ocean to the north while the Red Bass Ocean is to the east and the the South Ocean to the west.
It is named after the island of Ananto, which lies at the heart of the ocean and is part of the modern-day nation of Kalistan.
Geography[]
The Anantonese Ocean is the second largest of Terra's oceans, after the Red Bass Ocean. It has a number of marginal seas:
- Sea of Vorona
- Schismatic Sea
- South Indrala Sea
- Odufart Sea
Oceanography[]
Among the notable rivers which flow into the Anantonese Ocean are the Ma-Gan River in Indrala, the Neveras River in Kalistan and the Heping River in Tukarali. Alongside the numerous other rivers which flow into the ocean, this causes variations in the salinity of the water. It is highest in the eastern regions, particularly the Sea of Vorona while the lowest levels can be found towards the south, partially driven by glacial melting.
Marine life[]
In summer months, the Anantonese Ocean contains some of Terra's largest phytoplankton blooms- a crucial part of the ocean's ecosystem. Due to the vast expanses of water it holds, the ocean is home to some of Terra's most interesting marine species like the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), the leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) and the orca (Orcinus orca).
History[]
The Anantonese Ocean played a crucial role in the rise of theEmpire of Ananto, which it derives its name from and was the basis of the Anantonese Ocean Pact. Additionally, the Anantonese Ocean was the centre of the Ananto War between Indrala and Kalistan when Kalistan declared an embargo of all naval traffic through the Anantanese Ocean.
