The Left Party - the Communists (Syldavian: Baloldali Párt - Kommunisták, BPK) (Zergonese, Lijeva Stranka - Komunisti, LSK) is a communist party in the Directorial Republic of Endralon.

Foundation[]

The BPK was founded in May 4788 with the goal to become a new, clearly left-wing alternative in Endralonian politics. The founding congress elected Gabriella Gáspár, a 42-year old house painter, activist and trade unionist to the post of general secretary.

Ideology and Political Positions[]

Factions[]

The BPK is the home of a broad range of left-wing and far-left ideologies. The two most dominant unofficial factions are the Neocommunists who favours a political line that is close to democratic socialism with high empathis on expanding democracy into the economical sphere and build socialism step by step, and the more orthodox Metzist-Leonidists who tend to support a more clearly revolutionary line. There are also varius internal groupings that can't really be placed in any of these categories.

Socialism and Communism[]

The party stands for collective ownership over industry, workplace democracy and radical wealth redistribution. The BPK seeks to build a new economic system based on popular participation and a mixture of central and decentral planning. The end goal of the party is to build a classless, stateless and moneyless communist society free from all forms of oppression and exploitation.

Social Issues[]

The BPK is often considered very socially progressive, the party fully supports feminism, anti-racism, LGBTQ+rights, abortion rights and an open immigration policy. The party does however reject liberal individualism and motivate these policies by principles of social equality rather than individual freedom. The BPK view prostitution, pornography and surrogacy as oppressive, patriarchal and as forms of violence against women. The party supports the decriminalization, but not normalization, of drug use and see it as neither a question of morality or personal liberty but as a public health issue.

Views on Directorialism[]

The party is positive to Endralon's directorial political system but believes it doesen't go far enough and that real democracy is impossible under capitalism. The party have sometimes talked about a "directorial democratic economy" and the expansion of directorialist principles into the economic sphere.

The BPK have a complicated relationship to the Direct Democrats, viewing them as too economically liberal yet at the same time generally a force for democracy and progress. The BPK also honors respects the role played by the DD in the Second Endralonian Civil War.

Views on Nationalism[]

The party rejects what it calls "old Endralonian nationalism", viewing it as pro-colonialist and excluding towards the almost 50% of the population that is not Syldavian. They do however mostly support the "new Endralonian patriotism" that is inspired by the creation of and ideas behind the directorial republic. The BPK supports a multicultural Endralon and is strongly opposed to racism and ethnic conflicts.

Some commentators have described the party as economic nationalists, or even economic isolationists. The BPK values economic independence, supports local industry and agriculture, oppose free trade agreements and completely opposes the presence of multinational corporations in Endralon. The party even more strongly supports the economical independence of smaller and poorer nations and supports an anti-imperialist foreign policy.

Party Structure and Activities[]

Leadership and Structure[]

The BPK highly empathise it's internal democracy and have a mixed decision making policy with direct membership voting in many situations and representative voting i others. The party practices a more flexible form of democratic centralism and has a general party line while simultaniously allowing open dissent to it, except for in instances where members completely oppose the party's basic ideological principles. The party congress is the highest decision-making organ of the party and is held every second or third year. The congress elects a Central Comittee (CC) which functions as the political and organizational leadership between congresses and a General Secretary (GC) that chairs the CC and functions as a de facto party leader. The GC is also generally the presidential candidate of the BPK, although this is decided in a seperate election.

Candidates for republican senate and local elections are decided locally without interference from the CC, although it's fairly common that CC members are nominated by their own party districts in these elections.

In most decision making organs of the party there are quotas to make sure that the party is diverse and representative of it's political target demographics. At least 50% of all elected bodies of the party must be women, and 60% of the central comitte must be "clearly coming from the working class", furthermore the congress, CC and senatorial candidate list must include various minority groups.

Activism[]

The BPK have a much higher focus on grassroots activism than most other parties in Endralon and takes much pride in this. The party frequently organize and participates in various protests and social movements and many members, even many high ranking ones have been fined or arrested for civil disobidience or participation in illegal protests. The BPK has strong ties to many labour unions and require it's members to be unionized, the party almost unnconditionally supports striking workers and members have often been in the frontlines of strikes. The party have sometimes been critizised for their use of stickers, illegal postering and graffitti in their campaigns. The party practices non-violence in all cases except for in self defence, party members have sometimes clashed with supporters of far-right groups but have maintained that these instances of violence where in direct defence of the safety of themself or other people.

Trade Unions[]

The BPK actively cooperate with and support many labour unions and mandates that (working) party members are unionized. The party is especially close to the Demokratikus Munkásszövetség trade union federation that it recives official support from.

Youth Wing[]

The youth wing of the BPK is the Kommunista Ifjúság (Communist Youth). The KI is an independent activist organization that has a mutual support agreement with the BPK. The KI organizes communists aged 14-30 with most members being in their late teens or early to mid twenties. The KI is generally sympathetic to the more radical wings of the party and takes pride in being an extraparliamentary organization. Certain conservaive commentators have often stated that the Communist Youth is an aggressive left-wing extremist organization.

The organization participates in many student body elections, arrange studies in metzist and feminist theory and parttake in activism on campuses, Many members of the student group are also members of the Communist Youth.

It often reports on social movements, corruption scandals and the everyday struggles of working class people. It has sometimes recieved attenion nationally after uncovering scandalous information about some of the rich and powerfull in the country.
