The Church of Mordus is a religion founded of reverence for our nation's founder, Emperor Mordus. However, it should be known that the Church only considers the Emperor as a prophet of God. The Church is protected and founded by the Prieuré de Mordus which is also responsible for selecting the Pope. Unlike most religions, the Church of Mordus allows its clergy to marry, but only to their fellow clergy. The Church of Mordus allows both sexes to be initiated to its clergy and a child born to clerics shall itself be a cleric, thus creating a caste-like system.

History

The Church of Mordus was founded in 2945 by the Prieuré de Mordus in an attempt to homogenize nationalist sentiments. It was made into a state religion where membership in which was mandatory and early conversions were made under threat of state-sanctioned violence. The unpopularity of this move caused the only papist party at that time, the Elitist Super Squad, to lose the majority of the seats in the Divine Assembly of Lords giving way to the rise of the Royal Crown Alliance. The RCA banished the Church of Mordus and its pope dismissing it as a dangerous cult. The RCA's rise was short-lived, however, and papists were able to lift the banishment and reinstate the Church of Mordus as the official religion, but this time with a voluntary membership. Later on, papists turned Mordusia into an ecclesiastical monarchy with the Church's Pope to occupy the throne.

Doctrine

The Church of Mordus holds that there is an eternal God that exists in everything and in any form. Its teachings hark from the Old Testament of the Holy Bible.

The Prophecy

One of the key distictions of the Church of Mordus is its belief that the Emperor Mordus was chosen by God to unite Mordusia so that it may one day be a Terran superpower.

Organization

The Church's hierarchy is headed by the Pope. The Pope holds primacy of jurisdiction in matters of faith, morals, discipline and Church governance and is the head of state of the Divine Aristocracy of Mordusia. The next highest level in the hierarchy is the College of Cardinals, a collection of eighty Men specifically selected by the Prieuré to advise the Pope. The Church is further divided into dioceses, each led by a bishop, and each diocese is further divided into parishes, each led by a priest and priests may be assisted by deacons.
