The Democratic Party of Likatonia is a liberal political party in Likatonia. It was part of the United Likatonian Opposition.

Platform[]

First party paltform was adopted at the first congress of Social Democrats, that was held in the Square of the Republic 13 in the Likatonia capital on 19th of August 4679. The party platform of the SD espouses the goal of social democracy, which is seen as a vision of a societal arrangement in which freedom and social justice are paramount. Freedom, justice and social solidarity form the basis of social democracy. The coordinated social market economy should be strengthened and its output should be distributed fairly. The party sees that economic system as necessary in order to ensure the affluence of the entire population. The SD also tries to protect the society's poor with a welfare state. Concurrently, it advocates a sustainable fiscal policy that does not place a burden on future generations while eradicating budget deficits. In social policy, the Social Democrats stand for civil and political rights in an open society. In foreign policy, the party aims at ensuring terra peace by balancing interests of most power nations with democratic means. The SD supports economic regulations to limit potential losses for banks and people. Social democrats supports the protection of terra's and Likatonia's environment.

Second party platfrom was adopted in the at 4670 when Eric Smith was elected as leader of Social Democrats. He changed party name after almost 80 years and adopted new platform, moving party to the political centre but still advocating personal freedom, which this time was even more emphasized. Creating true welframe state is secondary now, while party first goal is to maintain full democratic multi-party system which have been functioning in Likatonia for centuries although there were some challenges when NULP was in power in early 4740s which will enable Likatonian citizens personal freedom.

Factions[]

Left wing (until late 4770s)[]

This party wing is most to the left and had one elected party president, Marc Weiss. This faction is more to the left than social democrats and are advocating democratic socialism and left-wing populism mainly. This faction tend to be also hard secularist banning all religious freedom, while there are many progressives in this faction as well. Left faction is also strongly pacifist and against any type of militarisation. In the second half of 4770s decade, few new left-wing parties have been formed. This resulted that vast majority members of this faction decided to join them, while tiny minority decided to join the Social Democrats.

Party president that belonged to this faction is Marc Weiss.

Social Democrats wing[]

This faction dominated throughout most of party history. They held most leaders of the party, 6 out of 8 party presidents, only Marc Weiss belonged to the other faction during the pre-Democrats or Social Democrats era. Faction's main ideology is social democracy though some of them are progressives, populists and even hard secularists, banning all religious freedom. Most of the members are anti-militarist or strongly pacifist.

Party presidents that belonged to this faction are:

Michael Johanson, Matthew Walter, Terresa Nickson, Emily Houward, Laurie Larson, Thomas Hartley.

Social Liberal wing (until mid 4770s)[]

Social liberals were one the rightest factions within the pre-Democrats or Social Democrats era. During this period party did had any party president mainly because they lacked popularity in the old SD. However, during the second half of 4750s, this faction steadily gained more supports and would eventually help to create new party branding name Democratic Party of Likatonia backing Eric Smith as inner-party candidate for the party leadership office. The main ideology of this faction is social liberalism, some of them recognise them as centrist and as well supports of Third Way, bridge between socialist and capitalist on topic of economical politics. This faction is staucnhly opposed to hard secularists. This faction is mostly anti-militarist. This is faction doesn't exist since the mid 4770s due to members stepping up into either Liberal or Social Democrats faction.

As of now, none of the party leaders belonged to this faction.

Libaral wing[]

Although there is little or no ideological differencies between these factions, there is still important one. During the Social Democrats or pre-Democrats era this wing was not regosnised as seperate from social liberal and that time, there wasn't any difference. However, after Eric Smith was elected as party president, it became clear that these two factions are different. Liberal faction is more economically to the right and current party leader identifies himself as liberal. This factions is also against hard secularists. However, this faction is more militarist than Social Liberal, although their stance on almost every topic is moderate. This faction doesn't not approve however rapid militarisaiton but is still more militarist than any faction to the left and is taking middle ground on this topic as well.

Party presidents that belonged to this faction is current leader - Demi Hughes. Other party presidents were Eric Smith, Tomasz Joseph, Ignacio Bishop, Juan Rios.

Centrist wing[]

This faction has least ideologically distinct from any party faction. It's even hard to say when this faction emerged since populism is tightly related to this faction, although there are still many populists in other factions. This party is economically advocating Third Way and is staunchly against militarisation. This faction is not progrssives nor conservative on social subject, but rather mixutre. Most of the faction members are secularists, some of them, though minmority, are hard-secularists.

Since it's relatively new, recognised to exist only from Democrats era, there hasn't been any party president which belonged to this faction, although many of them shared some ideological similarities with this faction before it's been even recognised as faction.

Right Liberal wing[]

Starting from early 4760s, this faction emerged during the early Democrats era. This faction is advocating economical liberalism and is granting human right. They are economically one of the most righest faction withing the party, along with Liberal Conservative and Social Conservative faction. Most members of this faction are pacifists, while only tiny minority are militarists. This faction is also against hard-secularists.

There hasn't been any party president belonging to this faction.

Liberal conservative wing (from early 4760s until the late 4760s)[]

Starting from early 4760s, this faction started to emerge as a consequence of new party program which shifted party to the centre. They are advocating mixture of liberal and conservative policies, similarly to Centrist, but most of members aren't populists nor hard-secularists or anti-secularist, they are mostly taking middle ground on the matter of religiousness, although some of them are religious. This faction is advocating moderate militarisation.

There hasn't been any party president belonging to this faction.

This faction merged into the Social Conservative wing making joint Conservative wing.

(Social) Conservative wing[]

This faction emerged as well as the previous two in the early 4760s. This factions is the most religious, therefore staunchly against hard-secularists, but also against moderate secularists. This faction is conservative and it's advocating free martket. This faction is also the most militarist of all, requring to form strong military in order to properly defend ourselves.

There hasn't been any party president belonging to this faction.

Liberal Conservative faction joined this wing in the late 4760s due to their's faction low visibility inside the party. Since then, Conservative wing has been taking more modearte stance on religious matters. They are still advocating strong military, but no rapid militarisation.
