The Department of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs (Kazulianisk: Avdeling for Riksadvokaten og Juridiske Saker) is a cabinet-level department of Kazulia. Under the Kazulian federal system, individual States are most responsible for the administration of justice and the application of penalties. The department is responsible for areas of constitutional policy.
Its stated priorities are to reduce re-offending and protect the public, to provide access to justice, to increase confidence in the justice system, and uphold people’s civil liberties. The Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs is the minister responsible to parliament for the judiciary, the court system and prisons and probation in the federal domain.
The states maintain their respective State Ministries for Justice which are responsible for judicial matters arising from the state judicial system. To this extent, the Patent and Trademark Office, the Patent Court and the Kazulian Court of Justice and other subordinate agencies are under the remit of the Department.
The Department, whilst functioning as the federal administrator of justice is also responsible for the administration of justice on the island of Arenheim through the Advocate General of Arenheim.
