The Republican Guard (Selucian: Custodes Rei Publicae) is a special military unit initially formed by DictatorCaius Cassius Sophus as the Dictatorial Guard, tasked with protecting his person and the Republic. The Guard was reformed in 3848 by Dictatrix Octavia Flavia Hadriana as the Republican Guard, expanding its functions into protecting all higher magistrates and the Senate. The unit is mostly made up of elite members of the Praetorian Legions in the Selucian Army, as well as former members of the Patrician Militia, a paramilitary group aligned with the Union of Capitalists and Patricians. Several veterans from the private military company Scutum, a daughter company of Sophus et Dives, also signed with the force loyal to Dictator Sophus, although they were largely purged as a result of the proscriptions of 3848.
