Edmund von Greifstein was an influential and leading political figure of his day. As the Head of Government of Greater Hulstria the Margrave was arguably one of the most powerful men in Hulstrian government besides the Emperor of Hulstria; many historians credit the Margrave transforming the office greatly and restoring it to its mantle of power following some less than reputable tenures of his last two predecessors. Greifstein was the last Staatsminister under the Court of Heinrich I of Hulstria, one of the longest serving monarchs in the nation's history. His last years as Staatsminister saw him act as a close advisor to the new monarch, Heinrich II. The Margrave additionally saw the formation of the "Imperial Conservative" faction in Greater Hulstria alongside Wolfgang Reinhardt of the Fascist Authority Party, a party that Greifstein allied with during the 2710 decade and a party continues to remain a close ally of the KHP to this day.
The Margrave was elected as the Governor-General of Greater Hulstria in 2726, defeating the left-wing candidate Hildegard Klay, and returning Hulstria to conservative rule. He would serve two terms as Governor-General; historians continue to rank Greifstien as one of the most powerful Governor-Generals in Hulstrian history as he also held the office of Staatsminister during his tenure, effectively holding the two offices concurrently. He remains the only Governor-General of Greater Hulstria to have held both offices for an extended period at their time of election.
The title of Margrave of Greifstein would later come under the banner of the House of Flieder after his death; his only daughter would marry the Duke of Flieder and their child, Edmund's grandson, would take up both titles of the Duke of Flieder and Margrave of Greifstein.
