The Empire of Gao-Soto (Kunikata: 御國, mikuni or mikoku) is the eastern half of the Imperial Crownlands of Hulstria and Gao-Soto. It was established in 3388 as a sovereign entity, offering wide political and cultural autonomy to the Kunihito people within Greater Hulstria.
The elections of 3385 brought a landslide victory to a coalition of Gao-Showa nationalist parties and their Hulstrian sympathizers. The following year, Greater Hulstria was transformed into the Imperial Crownlands of Hulstria and Gao-Soto, allowing for the creation of a Gao-Showa sovereign state in the east of the country. In 3388, Gao-Soto was restored, as one of the two halves of a dual monarchy, together with the Empire of Hulstria. In March 3389, Ostland was granted Crownland status, becoming the third Crownland of the Empire of Gao-Soto. Following a brief constitutional crisis, the thrones of Hulstria and Gao-Soto were separated in 3393, with the crowning of former Sekowan Emperor Okatori Takahiro as the new Emperor of Gao-Soto.
Government[]
The Empire of Gao-Soto enjoys a large degree of political autonomy from the central government, being allowed to have its own laws and governance. The Head of State of the Empire is the Emperor of Gao-Soto (御國の帝 Mikoku no Mikado). The legislative body of the Empire of Gao-Soto is the Imperial Court (朝座政 Tyouzasei), elected by universal suffrage by all the citizens of the Empire. The Executive body of Gao-Soto is the Three Departments and Six Ministries (三官六司 Sankan Rokubu), headed by the Chief Secretary (太政大臣 Daizyou-daizin).
The Empire of Gao-Soto is divided into three Crownlands (冠領 Kanryou), enjoying a fairly high degree of autonomy. The three Crownlands are Mitrania, Hilgar, and Ostland/Touryou, and they are divided into 38 districts known as Dou (道, meaning circuit). The Crownlands are governed by elected State Diets (州議會 Syuu Gikai) who make up their legislatures and Chief Ministers who head the regional government and supervised by Crown Commissioners appointed by the Monarch; Crown Commissioners also act as a judicial supervisor over the Crownland's judicial system as well.
