The Five Great Buildings were five buildings in the city of Seongtaek built in the Rowiet Era. Pulling from Traditional Kyo, Art Deco, and Socialist Realist Architecture; the buildings were the centerpiece of the communist government's attempts to spread propaganda into everyday life and the architecture of the nation. Of the five, only one remains relatively unchanged today: the Green House. The rest have either been irreparably altered, or torn down completely.

The buildings are:

  • The Grand Hall of the Workers
  • Communism Station (Renamed Seongtaek Central Terminal)
  • The Revolutionary Museum of Dankuk (Torn down)
  • The Seongtaek Great Library
  • The Serene Palace of Culture and Art

Grand Hall of the Workers[]

The Grand Hall of the Workers was built as the headquarters of the ruling Communist Party. It was converted into a meeting place for the Seongtaek City government following the Rowiet collapse, and would remain such for a century. A fire damaged the building's foundations in 5023; it was subsequently demolished entirely.

Serene Palace[]

The Serene Palace was a large skyscraper that had been under construction prior to the Dranian Civil War. Following red victory, the government used the remaining foundation and scaffolding to finish the internal compartments. In 4938 major renovation added 10 floors to the building and gave it its iconic antenna. The Serene Palace's main tower was torn down during the DNWA Regime as a source of building materials for renovation and urban construction, but the ground wings remain. The remnants have long been stripped of the valuable copper and marble once inlaid at creation, today only concrete remains.

Communism Station[]

Communism Station was a gigantic metro station built in the 4940s, at relatively inexpensive cost under poor management. Although gargantuan, the station was made of cheap concrete and investigation following the collapse of communism revealed gaping structural flaws. It was mainly a propaganda piece rather than sustainable architecture, and the large concrete shell was almost immediately demolished after the return of democracy. Today, in the place of Communism station is the significantly smaller and less costly Seongtaek Station building. However, the intricate and ornate internal art inside the metro has remained largely unchanged since the UCCR.

National Museum[]

The National Museum of the UCCR was housed in an impressive neo-classical building with modernist and Indralan influences. The building survived the collapse of communism, and was eventually handed over to private investors in the 4970s. The museum building eventually became a hollow food court, and remained as such up to the 5090s. Following a recession, the former National Museum Building was demolished to build affordable housing. Its impressive concrete foundations can still be seen today under modern apartments, but no traces of the actual building remain.

The Green House[]

The Green House is the only surviving Great Building of Seongtaek still standing today; and is considered an iconic emblem of the city. It houses the National Library of the Kingdom of Bae, and continues to largely look the same as it did under the UCCR. The only noticeable modifications have been the removal of communist symbolism from the outside features.
