Jack Collins is a Kirlawan politician, who served as the leader of the Democratic Party between 3524 and 3535, and as Leader of the Opposition in the General Assembly of Kirlawa, the country's legislature, between 3528 and 3535.
Early career[]
Collins became a member of the Party of Labour of Kirlawa in 3520, at the age of 31. He was elected leader of the party's local branch in the Province of Uwakah only three years later, but was not elected to any legislative assembly - neither local nor national. In 3524, the Party of Labour changed its name to the Democrats of the Left (DL), due to a naming dispute with another party bearing the same name as the Party of Labour. The three and a half years until the next election, the Democrats of the Left remained out of the General Assembly, with no seats. Soon after this, the party adopted its current name, the Democratic Party.
Party leadership[]
Following Christina Eleftheria's resignation as leader of the Democratic Party due to their electoral wipeout on the national level and more moderate defeat on the local level, Collins became one of the most prominent candidates to succeed her as party leader. He ultimately won the leadership vote at the party congress of November 23rd, 3524, with 104-58 votes in favour of his ascendancy to the party leadership. As party leader, Collins rapidly removed most of the marxist symbolism of Eleftheria's post-communist leadership, and began portraying his party as a mainstream centre-left, progressive party. This strategy proved to be a massive success for him and his party in the 3528 elections, when the party got 23.0 percent of the votes, and thus became the third largest party in Kirlawa. This allowed for Collins to become Leader of the Opposition on February 1st, 3528.
Leader of the Opposition[]
Following Collins' inauguration as Leader of the Opposition, he began developing a more open profile for the Democratic Party, aiming at opening for more co-operation and possibly a coalition with some of the other parliamentary parties in the General Assembly, especially the Greens. In November 3529, Collins and the Democrats forged an official alliance with the Greens for the Kirlawan presidential elections.
Governor of Uwakah[]
In the 3528 elections across the country, the Democratic Party had won the gubernatorial elections in the Provinces of Uwakah and Dirguzia. In March 3529, the elected Democratic governor of Uwakah stepped down due to illness, and his post was then filled by Jack Collins, who held his position until January 14th, 3530. Another Democrat took Collins' place when the latter resigned and returned to the national General Assembly to complete his term as a member of parliament.
