The Kingdom of Alaria, also known as the Kingdom of Estalia, was an early modern kingdom that existed on the island of Alaria after gaining independence from the Ahmadi Caliphate. Alaria had previously been unified under the medieval Kingdom of Nicoma, but just like the mainland, Nicoma fell to the armies of the Caliphate after its fleet was defeated in 1245. Due to its peripheral location within the Ahmadi empire, Caliphate rule over Alaria was tenuous, and the HosianAlarian aristocracy maintained much of its power and privileges. With the weakening of the Caliphate's authority in the aftermath of its failed invasion of Cildania in 1438 the local nobles regained their independence and estalished the independent Kingdom of Alaria. In 1772 Alarian King Francis III Iron hand, laying claim to the Sarrentina Peninsula, proclaimed himself King of Istalia and renamed his kingdom to the Kingdom of Istalia, laying the foundations of Istalian nationalism.
