The Monarchy of Kazulia, colloquially known as the Kazulian Monarchy, is a constitutional institution and a historic institution of the Kingdom of Kazulia. The current federal Kingdom of Kazulia was founded or re-united by the joining of the Petty Kingdoms of Koti, Dreton, Hent, Flindar and Kelvon. Originally an elective monarchy, it became hereditary monarchy following a constitutional crisis. A decisive transition to a constitutional monarchy occurred in 2300 with the writing and proclamation of the first constitution.
The monarch and their immediate family undertake various ceremonial and representational duties. The Kazulian Monarchy is constitutional and as such, the role of the monarch is defined and limited by the Constitution of Kazulia. According to the constitution, the ultimate executive authority over the government of Kazulia is still by and through the monarch's royal reserve powers; in practice, these powers are only used according to laws enacted in Parliament or within the constraints of convention. The monarch is, in practice, limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours and appointing the prime minister. The monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties.
History
The Kazulian monarchy is over 1000 years old, founded around 3500 (or earlier). The lines of kings and queens of the modern Kingdom of Kazulia can be traced to Victor Asplund, who reigned from 2297 to 2322. The kingdom itself thought is speculated to be centuries older than this.
