Nicolas Vermaelen, (26 February 4810) is a Rildanorian politician who served as President of the Trudeauist Republic of Rildanor from January 4845 to January 4853, being the first person to hold the position. During the parliamentary monarchy, Vermaelen served as President of the Government of Rildanor, Leader of the New Popular Party and as Royal Senator for Tiralouse. Vermaelen is the son of social activist and former Royal Senator Tim Vermaelen. A social democrat and supporter of the Republican movement in Rildanor, Vermaelen joined the growing faction of social democrats who were advocating turning Rildanor into a Republic, among them Pierre Pépiteaux, with whom he befriended. In 4843, Vermaelen won the election to the National Constituent Convention in Tiralle, and in October of that same year he announced his presidential candidacy, becoming official on May 1, 4844. His running mate was Pierre Pépiteaux.
