The Popular Front of Alaria (Istalian: Fronte Popolare d'Alaria), or Popular Front, is a left-wing party founded in May 5035 in the Union of Quanzar and Alaria by Guglielmo Di Masi, Aleandro Cardone and Sofia Barberi among others, with the latter becoming its first Federal Secretary.

Political ideology[]

It was founded with the main intention of representing and defending the interests of the Alarian people following the constitution of the Union of Quanzar and Alaria and the desintegration of the latter Istalian nation.

As such, the party itself does not have a marked political ideology, grouping in its ranks different political sensibilities under a common objective, the defense of the Alarian nation. However, when asked about the party ideology and its main purposes, Sofia Barberi indicated that, although being a party open to the whole Alarian society, the party itself would not tolerate any sign of "racism, sexism, homophobia or discrimination of any kind", and rejected the idea of a superior "Alarian race". The party has also made clear its opposition to religious privileges.

Since its constitution as a formal party to contest the elections in the Union, the Popular Front has been constituted at the territorial level in three federations: one for each region of Alaria and one for the entire territory of Quanzar.

History[]

The Popular Front was founded in 5035 following the collapse of the previous Istalian nation, that made way to the Union of Quanzar and Alaria, achieving the long-awaited independence of the island of Alaria. Fearing that Quanzar would try to absorb into its existence again the Alarian nation, a group of intellectuals, political activists (including militants of the extinct Silician and Sarregnan Blocs, regional factions of the Left Bloc) and members of the civil society created what became the Popular Front of Alaria. It contested its first elections in 5038, where it secured an absolute majority in the Federal Assembly and dominated both regional assemblies (in Quanzar and Alaria). Following the 5042 elections, the party's popularity collapsed in Quanzar, losing the government of the nation but keeping the Alarian and the Union governments.

Despite losing the government after the snap elections of 5039 due to the conflict with the military, the party regained it after the 5053 elections when it reached a coalition agreement with the League, the federalist movement of Quanzar, becoming the first government involving both federalist parties.

Party organization[]

The party is leaded by a Federal Secretary, which is elected by the militants in a popular vote. The main legislative and advisory organ of the party is the Federal Committee, composed by 20 members and the Secretary themselves.
