The position was abolished by the Ahmadi Revolutionary Movement and succeeded by newly instituted monarch in 4901, but with the 4909 elections and the subsequent constitutional reforms the office of the President of Jakania was reinstituted.
Election and term of office[]
The President is elected by universal suffrage for a term of four years, along with the parliamentary election. To win on the first ballot, a candidate needs to win fifty percent of the votes cast. If the first ballot is inconclusive, then a second ballot is held between the two leading candidates. The President-elect, if a member of a party, must sever their relations with their party. Their status as a member of the Assembly of the Republic ceases.
Authority and powers[]
The President represents the Republic of Jakania and the unity of the Jakanian nation, ensures the implementation of the constitution and the organized and harmonious functioning of the government bodies. The President is the commander-in-chief of the Jakanian Armed Forces. President is also tasked with ceremoniously inviting a deputy of the Assembly, usually the leader of the largest party represented in the Assembly, to form the government. If the leader of the largest party fails to do so, the President may invite another deputy to form the government.
Official residence[]
The Nurhasar Palace is the official residence of the President of Jakania. The building also served as the seat of the Jakanian government prior to 4910 constitutional reforms. The building is a modern construction deliberately designed in a traditional architectural style.
