The Progress Democrats (Fortschrittsdemokraten), often referred to as the Forts Dems, or Pro Dems internationally, is a political party in Dorvik. The party was formed in January 4159 as a merger of the Progress Party (which was active since May 4046, the oldest party active in Dorvik) and disgruntled members of the Libertarian Party, among a small portion from the Konservative Union.
Upon poor election results, the Progress Democrats rebranded to Progress in 4207, dropping "Democrats" from their name and returning to branding more commonly associated with the original Progress Party.
History[]
The Progress Party has endured a set of poor election results continually for around thirty years. With classical liberal and libertarians becoming disenfranchised with the Libertarian Party, and the increasingly rightward direction the Progress Party was taking, it was decided the party would re-brand and espouse a more conservative platform. Many within the old Progress Party disapproved and as such defected to other parties eventually, many signing up to the Radical Party. Ronald Rieger became the first official leader of the Progress Democrats.
In May 4186, popular party leader Hannes Ellmenreich died from natural causes.
