Jakanian Republic Day

Fireworks over the city of Mesul to celebrate Republic Day

Republic Day (Tukaric: Cumhuriyet Bayramı), occassionally referred to as Victory Day (Tukaric: Zafer Bayramı), is a national public holiday in Jakania commemorated each year on 18 December to remember and celebrate the liberation of the country from invasion by Deltaria in the Deltarian - Coalition War.

The date commemorates the declaration of a new republic following the final expulsion of Deltarian forces after the invasion but the celebration is intended to reflect "the everlasting republican principles of Jakania". Since the 4730s, the day has been an official national holiday, whereas previously it was commemorated informally by citizens.

In the immediate aftermath of the War, the date was primarily used to commemorate the death of Jakanian and Coalition soldiers in the conflict, rather than as a celebration of the country's independence. A separate date known as Jakania Day is often celebrated to mark the original founding of the Republic by Temiz Ozkan in 2006.

Celebrations[]

Under the administration of the Democratic Alliance, legislation was adopted which formally established Republic Day as a national public holiday and mandated that national, regional and local governments make provisions to commemorate it in the appropriate manner. At different times and in different places, commemoration of the date has varied and evolved.

On the morning of the day, towns and cities will hold formal services to commemorate those who died in the conflict at local war memorials and other notable local locations. The Jakanian national government organises two major parades on the afternoon of the day that are intended to provide a centre for public celebration of the event, and local businesses such as restaurants, bars and clubs will often continue these celebrations into the evening.
