The Selucian Senate, officially known as the Senate (Selucian: Senatus) is an advisory body in Selucia. Consisting of members appointed for life, the Senate is meant to embody the auctoritas patrum, the moral authority of the elders, as distinct from the potestas, the power wielded by the people and the magistrates. Senators are appointed by the Prince of the Republic in his capacity as Censor. Former members of the Tribunate of the Plebs are automatically appointed to the Senate.
The name and function of the Senate are derived from the institution of the same name of the Selucian Empire, and it was established with the goal of deliberately imitating the ancient Senate in 4799. Prior to that date the Senate was the name of the legislative assembly of Selucia.
