Shahnam I (Shahnam Bardiya Gorgin Pesuna, 12 February 4080 - 13 October 4147) was Shah of Aldegar from 23 January 4138 until his death on 13 October 4147. Prior to his ascension to the throne under the Aldegarian National Party, Shahnam was the leader of the House of Pesuna, a historic Aldegarian noble family.

Early life[]

Shahnam was born during a time when Aldegar was ruled as a republic, with royal and noble families often persecuted by the administration. He was the son of Gorgin Pesuna, his predecessor as the leader of the House of Pesuna, and his second cousin Shahla Ardeshir. Shahnam was the first Aldegarian Shah from the House of Pesuna. In spite of this, the House of Pesuna was able to retain popularity among the general population. In particular, the Pesunas were maintained by a small group of wealthy supporters who ensured that nobody within the family needed to seek employment thus providing them with a certain distinction.

Reign[]

Shahnam was recognised as Shah following the success of the Aldegarian National Party who contested elections on a firmly pro-Shah platform, being led by the noted historian Tutak Esfahani. Shortly after their election, the ANP commissioned an enquiry to determine for certain who was the rightful heir to the throne- Shahnam was chosen.

Shahnam controversially used the title 'Divine Emperor of the He Dynasty' as well as several others which came with it. Whether or not he was the legitimate heir to these titles or whether he should use them even if he is, is a matter of debate. In particular his insistence on using 'King of Baltusia' prompted an international stand-off between Aldegar and Baltusia.
