Tommaso I Hassan of Istalia (Tommaso Hassan Alessandro Filippo Ben Ghazi; Romula, 29 March 4667 - 28 January 4756) was Emperor of the Istalians and Monarch of the Istalian Empire since 26 February 4724, when he ascended to the throne at the death of his mother, Michela I, until his death.

Biography[]

Grand Prince Tommaso Hassan was born at 4.22 p.m. on 29 March 4667 in Deodato II Polyclinic of Romula. As usual for the birth of an imperial baby, 12-gun salutes welcomed the birth's announcement.

The little prince was welcomed with great joy, arrived finally after many years of attempts by part of his parents, whose relationship had experienced serious difficulties precisely because of the fertility problems by Princess Michela which also generated a hint of depression in her. Fortunately, Princess Michela was able to recover and indeed, thanks to new experimental treatments, she got pregnant.

When the child was born, mainly at his father's insistence, he was given a double name, one chosen by the mother and one by the father. Prince Ghazi chosen the name of his own father. On every official documents, instead, the child was registred with and will have to use the extended surname Al Madyan-Appiano De Borromei, although no changement in the Imperial Dynastic name was agreed by the Emperor.

The life of Tommaso Hassan, unfortunately, at the age of eight, was dramatically marked by the tragic death of his father. This tragic loss has been considered by many as the cause of the troublesome following years of Prince Tommaso Hassan which was involved during his adolescence and first formation years to several press scandals relating to what was labelled as very "wild" life-style.

During the military career, however, Prince Hassan assumed a greater responsible behaviour, more suitable for his role as Imperial Prince, and then, since 4695 as official heir to the Throne, starting also a stable relationship after many short lived if not occasional ones which filled the pages of the gutter press.

In 4722, at 55, after years during which he was ever more involved by her mother into the State Affairs, he was designed as Imperial Regent when her mother was diagnosed with senile dementia and thus deemed as no longer able to fulfil her Duties.

Prince Tommaso Hassan acted as Regent just for two years until 26 February 4724 when ascended to the Throne after his mother's death becoming Emperor of the Istalians.

 Marriage and children[]

Prince Tommaso Hassan official engagement with Clarissa Ferrami was announced by Quattroregni Palace on 24 June 4698 and the couple married on 18 January 4699 at St Matthias Archbasilica in Romula, making their vows in front of 1,200 guests and the eyes of the nation and the world.

On 13 January 4701, almost after one year from the marriage, the Imperial Crown Household staff of Villa Colonnati announced that the Princess of the Crown was pregnant with her first child. The eldest son of Prince Tommaso Hassan, named Prince Alessandro Ghazi, was born at Deodato II Polyclinic on 31 August 4701. The couple had other three children: Princess Michela Saana on 12 May 4703 and the twin Prince Nicola Nadir and Princess Marzia Kamila on 21 September 4707.

Titles, Styles and Honors[]

Prince Tommaso Hassan was, from birth, an Istalian Grand Prince entitled to the style of "Imperial Highness" under Imperial Decree issued by Emperor Michele I in 4574, which gave the title and style to the children of the Imperial Grand Princes. From birth he was refered as "Grand Prince Tommaso Hassan of Marsama", according to the custom that wants the title of a newborn prince to contain the paternal predicate, having been his father created Duke by Emperor Nicola I the day before his marriage with at the time Princess Michela in 4657.

After Tommaso Hassan father's death, the 10 years old Prince inherited the ducal title becoming the "Grand Prince Tommaso Hassan, Duke of Marsama" and he was styled in this way unti the ascension to the throne of his mother when he became the "Imperial Grand Prince of the Crown Tommaso Hassan, Duke of Marsama".

Since 4722 until his ascension to the throne, Prince Tommaso Hassan, serving as Imperial Regent of the Empire was styled as "His Imperial Highness the Prince of the Crown and Imperial Regent of the Empire Tommaso Hassan, Duke of Marsama".

When he succeeded to her mother in 4724, he ascended to the Throne with the traditional treatment of "Most Excellent Imperial Majesty" as "Tommaso I Hassan, by the Will of the Nation and the Constitution of the Empire, Emperor of the Istalians, Protector and Guarantor of the Constitution, Defender of the Democratic Values, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Armed Forces of Istalia" and the newly ascended Emperor passed the ducal title to his son Alessandro Ghazi.

 Honors[]

As Monarch of Istalia and head of the Imperial House, Michela I was the Grand Master of all the Istalian dynastic and chivalry orders.

Name[]

When Tommaso Hassan name was announced the day of his birth, his parents explained that the full name of their son was a fusion of the Istalian and Majatran onomastics: after the names chosen by the parents and the godparents (Tommaso Hassan Alessandro Filippo), was added the majatran patronimic (Ben Ghazi) and a majatran nisba-like composition of both his families name (Al Madyan-Appiano De Borromei).

Ascending to the throne the new monarch, also on pression of the government and the most nationalistic forces of the country, to underline his role of Emperor of the Istalians, opted to put the numeral after his first istalian name rather than after also the majatran name. This custom was adopted also by his son Alessandro Ghazi. Centuries later, Emperor Paolo Tommaso and Nicola Alessandro, instead, put their numerals after both the clearly istalian-origin names.
