The West Dovanian Union (Gao-Showan: 西徒搬連合, Canrillaise: Union de le Dovanie Occidentale) commonly abbreviated as the WDU, is a supranational union of seven sovereign states in the western region of the continent of Dovani.

The WDU comprises multiple multinational organizations designed to ease trade, international cooperation, and defense arrangements between parties; these most notably entail the West Dovanian Economic Union and the Dovanian Defense Organization. The Union also serves as an institution for member states to participate in and negotiate with the global Terran community as a united bloc. WDU states have a common currency, the Dovanian Circus. The working language of the WDU is Kunikata, though official languages such as Canrillaise encompass those of the member states.

History

Prececessors

The ideology of Pan-Dovanism has its roots in Third Worldism and the creation of a colonial identity as the result of the imperial domination of the Dovanian continent. Whilst this sentiment was not absent in Western Dovanian nations (e.g. the Kyobando movement in Baeguk), there is a noticeable cultural and societal difference. By the 6th millenium, where the tensions and difference between the mostly developed and liberal West and the underdeveloped mwere exacerbated, it was evident that orthodox Pan-Dovanism would be innapropriate for most of the western continent.

Thus, rather than being a natural ideological successor to past Pan-Dovanist movements, the creation of the WDU actually represented a break from the orthodox conception of a united continent and instead promoted regionalism; it was thus relatively unprecedented in history. The most notable forerunner to the concept of a mutual security arrangement similar to the current Dovanian Defense Organization was the Three Mountains Agreement, a mutual defense treaty between Kazulia, Lourenne, and Mikuni-Hulstria.

Formation

The WDU was conceived between Sekowo and Baeguk in 5304 as a Pan-Dovanist project designed to mutually ensure economic and military cooperation between the two states. However, membership was explicitly left open to other regional powers in hopes of ultimately building a close coalition of likeminded states.

Ascension of New Members

Lourenne

The Kingdom of Lourenne initially joined in 5327 as a member of the WDEU only, but became a full member later.

Attempted New Verhamese Ascension

The Ascension. New Verham attempted to unilaterally join the WDU in 5450, but was rejected due to its unwillingness to adopt the Dovanian Circus, the WDU's currency. New Verham ultimately opted instead to join the Dovanian Council.

West Dovanian Parliament

The West Dovanian Parliament is the legislative body of West Dovanian Union, composed of representatives from the WDEU member nations for the purposes of passing binding legislation. Every member nation of the WDU receives 10 seats in the Parliament. For every 8 million citizens a member state has, an additional seat shall be received. Dalibor, as an observer, gets only one seat. The Parliament of the West Dovanian Union has the powers to regulate interunion commerce, to oversee the affairs of the Bank of Dovani, to oversee the affairs of the Dovanian Defense Organization, to cooperate with national authorities in ensuring the proper treatment of all union citizens, and to create a budget for Union activities. The Parliament also elects the President of the West Dovanian Union in a two-round system by an absolute majority every three years. The Parliament of the West Dovanian Union meets in the Gongmangdo Capital City, in the Kingdom of Great Bae.

Political Groups

Parliament members can organise themselves in political groups. To form a political group, a minimum of 2 members, elected in at least 2 of the WDU's Member States is required. Those Members who do not belong to any political group are known as 'non-attached' (non-inscrits) Members.

As of February 5343 there are six registered political groups:

• Dovanian Socialists & Democrats, composed of social democrats and democratic socialists.
• The environmentalist Dovanian Greens.
• The Alliance of Dovanian Worker's and People's Representatives, far-left group including communist members.
• The centre-right neoliberal Conservative Group.
• The Liberal and Centrist Group.

Non-iscrit members are independent members elected in Ostland and one member of right-wing to far-right Righteous Future (Dankuk).

Languages

The languages of the WDU are listed below. By WDU regulation, the Working Language of the WDU is the common language that should be used in all government, administrative, and communicative work. Official Languages of the WDU are integral languages which the WDU government is required to provide translations of all official law in for the public. Recognized languages of the WDU are acknowledged to be integral to the rich cultural heritage of the West Dovanian peoples, but are not required by law to be used in any way and their status is largely ceremonial. The working language of the WDU is Kunikata, with the second most widely spoken being Canrillaise.
